Last weekend Dave Mirra overcame a pack of hungry young riders to take the win in Park as the AST Dew Tour kicked off in Chicago. And that’s after getting “knocked pretty silly” (Dave’s words) and having a continuously bloody nose from a heavy fall in practice. Read on…
Thanks to super fast lines and big ol’ flair whips, Dave took the top spot in the prelims. Then, the day of the finals, Dave crashed hard. “I was riding well this morning but slipped, landed head first and got knocked pretty silly. At first I wasn’t going to ride, but this is the first show of the year. I’ve got to give it a shot. I wanted to be a part of the show and have fun, finishing first is the last thing I thought I could do.”
But that’s exactly what he did. Despite that nose that wouldn’t stop bleeding he came straight out the gate in the finals and chalked up a huge 93.38… his great run included a trick dubbed the air traffic controller: a no handed 360 back flip.
“You could see it in their eyes that these kids are hungry,” Mirra said. “Just to ride with these young guys and still be a part of the scene is awesome.”
