This month sees part two of DC’s four-part BMX TeamWorks project with the release of Dave Mirra’s custom shoe. Look for his BMX TeamWorks ad in this month’s mags, and visit dcshoes.com/bmx for an interview, a video, and more info surrounding Dave’s latest unique project with DC.
The DC TeamWorks program was created in 2005 to give our top riders the opportunity to customize their favorite DC products. Riders choose the materials and colors to reflect their tastes, riding styles, and personalities. From aesthetics to the performance technologies, each product is a perfect suit to each athlete’s unique needs.
Dave Mirra, as the most dominant rider in the history of BMX (he has more X Games medals than anyone in history), was a natural fit to join such a program. He joins Chad Kagy (whose shoe dropped last month), Allan Cooke, and Corey Bohan as the select members of the team to create the premier BMX TeamWorks Collection.
Dave worked closely with DC footwear designers to make his product, DC’s Breaker BMX model, 100% his own. After dialing in his performance needs, he did something unique for the look of his shoe. “I powder coat all my own bikes, and I had this copper one I’d just done. So I chipped off a piece of the powder coat and shipped it off to the DC design team. They got it perfect. Now I’ve got this black and copper shoe that matches a lot of the custom bikes I ride.”
About the program, Dave continued, “It’s not about one guy getting a shoe. It’s about getting together and customizing what we feel is needed out of a shoe for success at contests. It’s a cool program to have, and it goes to show how much DC is backing all of us riders.”
